We were at the regional track meet yesterday, which was a qualifier for the North Half Meet this Saturday. We had quite a few of our kids qualify. Of those, the only girls who qualified were our 3 distance girls: Walker Mattox, Abigail Arinder, and Mary Elizabeth Stringer (ME). Walker again dominated winning the 3200m (11:57 – PR) and 1600m (5:29 – PR) races, coming in 3rd in the 800m race (2:32), and running a strong leg in the 4 X 400 race (around 1:09). Abigail was 4th in the 3200m race with a time of 13:02. Mary Elizabeth was 3rd in the 1600m race with a 5:38 and 2nd in the 1600m race with a 2:31. ME also ran the first and fastest leg in the 4 X 400m race with a 1:03 or 1:04. Unfortunately, the other two girls on the team ran slower and Walker and Mary Elizabeth’s efforts were not rewarded as the team did not advance.
Our boys in the distance events also did pretty well. Joseph [MacGown] placed 4th in the 3200m race to qualify in that event, but was 6th in the 1600m (4:52) and did not qualify for that event. Kamau Bostic won the 1600m race with a 4:39, won the 800m race with a 2:01, and race a good leg in the 4 X 400 team that came in 3rd. Damian competed in the 3200m race, but unfortunately did not qualify.
We also had several other boys qualify including Martavious Foster (1st place-discus), Jalen Catledge (1st place triple jump, 3rd place 400m), Marcus Tate (4th place-shot put), Stanley Childs (3rd – long jump), Charles Hughes (4th – pole vault, 2nd – 110m hurdles, 2nd – 300m hurdles), Jacoby Smith (4th – 400m). Our relay teams all qualified as well including the 4 X 100m team (4th), 4 X 200m team (3rd), and 4 X 400 team (3rd).
