My name is Joe MacGown. I was born in 1964 and have been running and doing other forms of exercise since I was a kid. I am a semi crazy, hyper joker and I love the endorphin rush!  I live in Starkville, MS with my son Joseph. During the day I work as an entomologist at the Mississippi Entomological Museum. I was the cross country coach at Starkville Academy for a couple of years (2008 and 2009). Then, when we were thinking about moving Joseph to the public schools for high school, the coach there asked me to help them. So, we did end up moving him, and I was a volunteer xc coach there for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, as well as for track during the spring of 2011.  I also have a running club called the Starkville Striders. We get together for runs about three times a week. Sometimes only a couple of people show up, sometimes quite a few. It really depends on the time of year and the various schedules that people have at the time. We have had some awesome runners out running with us at times including some of the best from Starkville High, some runners from the MSU team (during the off season), various members of the MSU triathlon team, Starkville Academy runners, ROTC runners, and others! We also join the Boardtown Roadrunners Club in the summer and winter for long runs on Saturday mornings.

At night and on the weekends I spend quite a bit of time drawing and painting. You can view my artwork at joemacgown.com.  I also enjoy lifting weights, playing volleyball, basketball, biking, and other physical activities.

This blog is about my running and other fitness training. It is primarily centered around what my son Joseph and I are doing, but includes info about others that run with us as well. Most people will likely find this blog fairly boring, but perhaps some other runners will enjoy it. By listing our running workouts on here, it gives us a great way to compare training from month to month and year to year. I also give my opinions on running and other things at times. Hopefully, I don’t offend too many people!   But, if I do offend somebody, I am only semi-sorry, because you really don’t have to read it!
